E-Visita Iglesia - The Online Visita Iglesia and Via Crucis
Holy Week or Semana Santa, one of the most celebrated traditions of Filipinos. Part of the observance of Holy Week is the Visita Iglesia on Maunday Thurday, a practice that goes way back where early Christians would visit seven basilicas in Rome for adoration of the Blessed sacrament.
In the Philippines, Catholics observed this by visiting seven churches and praying two of the Stations of the Cross in each Church. Families, friends, people in groups would pray and kneel down together to give respect to the Saviour of Mankind. Some would visit each church by simply walking and some even in barefoot.
